GET TO KNOW YOUR STRAIN: PURPLE HAZE

Incredible colors, a psychedelic setting, classic rock and a good dose of THC: this post brings everything we love, along with the history of this special strain. Are you curious? Come with us!

Although it has this name become popular due to Hendrix’s music, Purple Haze is a strain that made its own fame on the cannabis red carpet. With green and purple tonalities, and beautiful trichomes that look crystal clear, this strain is considered a classic variety among connoisseurs of the cannabis world. But, after all, what are its mysteries and effects that bring so much success?

Where does it come from?

This sativa dominant strain (85% Sativa / 15% Indica), is a cross of the strains “Purple Thai” and “Haze”. This mixture could only result in a beautiful genetic, with earthy and sweet flavors. The hue of these beautiful flowers are in between purple and green. The purple color is caused by a pigment that we have already talked about here – anthocyanin in conjunction with other factors, such as colder temperatures.

Purple Haze apparently originated in Colombia, from which it was obtained and standardized from the Haze Brothers’ epic strain Haze, and Sam, The Skunkman. Today, we know that it is easy to grow. Resistant, it likes more temperate climates, and its flower time takes about 7 to 9 weeks.

The effects of Purple Haze

Purple Haze – Main Effects

According to the classification of the users themselves, Purple Haze is responsible for an energizing and psychedelic feeling. It stimulates brain work, unlocks creativity while bringing a feeling of happiness.

Purple Haze can be used medicinally and is indicated for those who suffer from conditions related to fatigue and indisposition. Its brain effects can also temporarily help with symptoms of stress or depression. However, it is not the most suitable for reducing chronic pain.

Because of its very energetic effect, which increases the flow of thoughts, it is not a good option for people susceptible to panic attacks or paranoia. It is also contraindicated in cases of insomnia – do not smoke this beauty before trying to sleep!

After all, what about Jimi Hendrix?

“Purple haze, all in my brain Lately things they don’t seem the same
Actin’ funny, but I don’t know why
Excuse me while I kiss the sky
Purple haze, all around
Don’t know if I’m comin’ up or down
Am I happy or in misery?
Whatever it is, that girl put a spell on me”

Jimi Hendrix, Purple Haze

Well, in this story of trying to find out who was born first, we found out that, in this case, it wasn’t the egg or the chicken!

There are some theories… Many people believed, in the 60s, that the song had been composed as a “tribute” to the super powerful LSD created by Owsley Stanley. This LSD was also called Purple Haze and not by the history of this cannabis strain. However, Stanley called this LSD “Purple Monterey”, due to the highly anticipated Monterey Pop Festival, where Hendrix performed beautifully in 1967. Thus, for some, it is still unclear whether Purple Haze’s name comes from one or on the other!

Hendrix said the song had nothing to do with drugs, but was based on a dream he had. In the dream, he was deep, under the sea, when a purple mist (a.k.a. PURPLE HAZE) surrounded him and enveloped him until he was lost. Hendrix also stated the phrase “whatever it is, this girl has bewitched me” only speaks, in fact, of a woman. Furthermore, Hendrix’s 1983 song “. (A Merman I Should Turn To Be” tells a similar story, in which Hendrix and a woman walk together to the sea to escape an apocalyptic setting.

Speculation aside, the fact is that this strain deserves all the fame in the world – and not just for the music, but for its intoxicating effects, which win over anyone who is lucky enough to prove it. Did you like this story? Be sure to check out our series about strains!
