Fat chance for me to find time to listen to anything new during my usual work day, but when I travel, which is much these days, I find myself listening to podcasts. Among the best are this list of eight cannabis podcasts you need in your life. When I can turn off the phone for six or so hours, I’ll dive into a few good podcasts. Well friends, I hope you start here with this brilliant list of talented weed people.

7 Must-Listen Podcasts About Weed

No matter what you’re into these days, there’s a podcast for it. And weed, despite its relatively new, albeit powerful emergence into the broader culture, is no exception.

Whether you’re into funny, conversational podcasts, thoroughly researched deep dives into interesting topics, or intimate celebrity interviews, there’s already a fire selection of weed-centric podcasts out there to please your ears and light up your mind.

For those who are new to the world of podcasting, or simply looking for more great shows to add to your queue, here are seven must-listen-to episodes to give you a good idea of where to start.

‘Weed + Grub’ — Jim Belushi on Sunshine, Cannabis, and Transformational Tripping

What’s the podcast?

“Weed + Grub” is a delightful, heartfelt show about weed, food, sex, and a variety of other topics — hosted by cannabis consultant and former High Times culture editor Mary Jane Gibson, and writer-comedian Mike Glazer.

What’s the episode?

Mike and Mary Jane’s interview with actor, comedian, and Oregon pot farm owner Jim Belushi is a true gem. Belushi really shows up for the conversation as vibrant, compassionate, and an open book. His newfound passion for cannabis cultivation is a heartwarming highlight.

“ The Jim Belushi interview is one of our favorite sit-downs with a celeb guest. We had an incredible conversation with him about love, psychedelics, dogs, weed, farming, family, music and more,” Gibson told Weedmaps News. “Skip to 12:30 to hear Jim talk about his transformational experiences with ayahuasca. And listen to him talk about his favorite time he got high, and SNL, at about 38 minutes in.”

‘High & Mighty’ — Episode 185 with Abdullah Saeed

What’s the podcast?

Comedian Jon Gabrus interviews celebrities and friends, and covers a wide variety of topics that interest him. Weed is one of them.

What’s the episode?

Gabrus’ interview with Abdullah Saeed — former co-producer and host of “Bong Appetit,” current writer and actor on HBO’s “High Maintenance,” host of “Great Moments in Weed History” (see below) and all-around professional weed enthusiast — is a fun, thorough conversation that’s sure to please the ears of any stoner. Gabrus and Saeed talk about their formative weed experiences, daily weed routines and preferences, Saeed’s career as a “weed guy,” and the ever-changing cannabis landscape.

‘Great Moments in Weed History’ — Willie Nelson Smoked a Joint on the Roof of the White House

What’s the podcast?

A new project from Abdullah Saeed and David Bienenstock, co-producer of “Bong Appetit” and author of “How to Smoke Pot (Properly): A Highbrow Guide to Getting High.” In each episode, Saeed and Bienenstock share a joint as Bienenstock reveals a key moment in weed history for the two co-hosts to riff on.

“Abdullah and I started the podcast because we want to make sure that as we move into an exciting new era of legalization, we don’t lose sight of the true outlaw history of cannabis culture,” Bienenstock told Weedmaps News. “People should understand the struggles and triumphs of this resistance movement, which fought back against injustice and oppressive laws while building a thriving underground community.”

What’s the episode?

In the first episode of the podcast, Bienenstock relays the personal history and lifelong love affair of Willie Nelson and weed, culminating in a historic sesh that Willie had on the roof of the White House with President Jimmy Carter’s son. Funny, weed-fueled tangents abound, and they’re pretty much always welcome.

‘Weed Week’ — Does Weed Cause Violence? A Debate with Alex Berenson

What’s the podcast?

A weekly update of news in cannabis culture, business, science, and everything else going on in the cannasphere; hosted by journalists Alex Halperin and Donnell Alexander.

What’s the episode?

Halperin and Alexander engage in a heated debate with Alex Berenson, author of “Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence.” Berenson’s book and accompanying New York Times op-ed garnered a lot of attention and controversy for its argument that marijuana is linked to an epidemic of psychosis and violence. The conversation starts to heat up when Alexander calls Berenson out on the conjectured and biased arguments in his work .

“Righteousness indignation on full display feels weird. They don’t tell you that,” Alexander told Weedmaps News. “I have done more than a little work on podcasts and radio, and haven’t felt more vulnerable than I did allowing myself to be this angry in public. But I really did feel Berenson’s intent is not honorable.”

Alexander added that his biggest regret after the debate was not asking Berenson who was financing his prohibition campaign.
