Coachella 2019: Can I smoke weed? How bad is traffic? We’ve got answers
Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2019. Here are 12 things you might not know about the event. Wochit
Coachella 2019 is right around the corner!
The music festival happens April 12-14 and 19-21 this year, so you’re probably starting to head to Michael’s to grab supplies for your flower crown.
As you put together the rest of your packing list, you might have a few other questions. We’ve got you covered.
Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival:
What time should I get there?

Lines to get in to the parking lots can be pretty long. It’s recommended to get to the Empire Polo Club grounds hours early just to be safe, and bear in mind that carpooling will help significantly. The fastest way of getting to and from the festival is by shuttle; you can find details here.
How bad will traffic be?

Traffic is notorious around festival season, with road closures and major delays expected. It’s best to plan your route in advance and be sure to check for road closures.
What will the weather be like?

Don’t look now, but triple-digit heat could be in the near future for the Coachella Valley.
Temperatures could flirt with 100 degrees by early next week.
But will the hot weather stick around for Weekend 1, which begins Friday, April 12?
“It looks like it should be relatively cool with a low pressure system off the coast,” said Jimmy Taeger, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in San Diego. “There is even the possibility of some wind or rain. It’s too far to tell specifics, though.”
If the wind materializes, Taeger advised festival goers to take precautions.
“If it’s windy, eye protection is always a good thing because of the blowing sand and dust in the eyes,” Taeger said. “Make sure tents and canopies are well secured because those items can go flying.”
My friends are camping but I’m not. Can I still join them in the campgrounds?

The Coachella website states that “anyone with a valid festival wristband is welcome in car & tent camping at any time.” Although, if you park in day or preferred parking, you should keep an eye on the time, as your car will be towed after 2 a.m.
If you don’t arrive at the festival by car, you should still keep an eye on the time: Line shuttles end one hour after music stops, and the ride share lot closes at 3 a.m.
I bought passes for both weekends. Can I just wear both wristbands so I don’t have to take one off and put the other on?

You can’t wear more than one wristband at a time. If you do, the scanners are likely to misread your wristband and you will not be able to enter the festival.
Can I smoke weed at the festival?

The answer is simple, according to the Coachella website: “Sorry, bro.”
While California state law allows people to smoke marijuana on private property, and possess about an ounce of cannabis if you’re over 21, that doesn’t mean Coachella promoter Goldenvoice allows it.
Smoking weed and possessing cannabis products at Coachella is against Goldenvoice’s policy. Medical marijuana cards, included.
Can I bring medical related items into the festival grounds?

Medical prescriptions can be brought in to the festival grounds as long as they are stored in properly labeled containers that match the ticket holder’s ID.
If you are bringing insulin or other medical-related items, be sure to make security aware when you enter the gates, as medical staff can provide a secure area for storage.
According to the Coachella website, “You may be asked to provide an official doctor’s note or prescription detailing the necessity of the item.”
Is Kanye really coming to Coachella?

It’s official. Kanye will be coming to Coachella this year to perform his new series of gospel-inspired concerts. “Sunday Service will be at Easter Sunday at Coachella. 9 a.m.” Kanye said in a video from a previous performance.
I’m confused if I can bring my camera or not. What qualifies as a ‘professional’ camera?

The Coachella website describes professional cameras as “any cameras with a detachable lens.”
How close are the campgrounds to the festival?

The campgrounds are located next to the festival; however, the campgrounds are pretty big, so make sure to bring comfortable shoes with you.
