I have a friend who likes to promote hemp on Facebook, and one of the posts had this “factoid”:

Looks highly doubtful to me but I can’t find any real supporting/disputing info.

Is there anything that would support/refute this claim?

1 Answer 1

Comback Daily argues that with two crops per year and with more efficient C4 photosynthesis .

The claim is based on the false premise that Cannabis species use C4 photosynthesis.

Several of the grasses use C4 photosynthesis. Despite its nickname, Cannabis species are not members of the grass family. They are members of the Cannabaceae family, all of which use C3 photosynthesis (the same mechanism used by most trees). No member of the Cannabaceae family is listed in a very extensive list of C4 plants [Sage], and the photosynthesis in Cannabis sativa is consistent with C3 photosynthesis rather than C4 photosynthesis [Chandra].

Hemp History and Health

Hemp is more than a superior super-food source, Hemp is a renewable resource that offers more potential compared to anything else! Hemp plants breathe in more CO2 compared to trees per acre so if you care about the environment, plant cannabis plants! Trees take longer to grow over time, Hemp grows like a weed! Cannabis/Hemp plants are better for the environment than planting trees. Superior biodiesel and other forms of cleaner energy can be produced from Hemp biomass. Better homes can be constructed from superior Hemp building materials.

There is a lot to learn about the Hemp plant, also known as Cannabis. There are many ways to eat Hemp as food including the sprouts, eating the raw buds, or eating the hemp seeds. People live longer, healthier lives with cannabis, without any meat, no fish and no dairy. Hemp provides a nutritionally balanced diet to maintain good health. Meat eating, fish and dairy do not provide a properly balanced diet, all this time hemp has more protein by weight with a proper balance of omega fatty acids that is not found in meat or fish. Many people still believe the myth that a vegan diet is unhealthy even when there are vegan professional athletes who are much healthier than most people.

Hemp seeds contain 23%-35% protein by weight, the percent of oil by weight can also vary by the variety of Hemp. Some strains have small seeds while other strains have larger seeds.

To make some hemp milk you could simply add hemp seeds in a blender with water. Add some vanilla bean or something else to add some extra taste and be creative. Cannabis has been known through history as the best medicine on earth, cannabis is anti-aging, full of anti-oxidants with so many medicinal uses.

Its almost endless what Hemp can provide, Hemp can provide superior energy and fuel to alternatives, oil, and tens of thousands of biodegradable products. Hemp fuel can create a cleaner energy source that can make poisonous forms of energy that are poisoning the planet obsolete. Hemp can even remove radioactive waste from the soil. Hemp helps detoxify and regenerate the soil as well, the falling leaves replenish the soil with nutrients, nitrogen and oxygen.

Hemp is a stronger fiber to make clothes with that provide more warmth and are more water absorbent compared to cotton. Hemp clothes last longer compared to regular cotton clothes, even when mixed with cotton.

Basics of Growing

Sprouting Cannabis/Hemp seeds is as easy as planting them in the soil and watering them daily, the seeds may take up to a week to sprout or longer. You can also leave seeds in jar filled with water and left away from light.

Renewable Energy

Hemp biomass has been used for energy for centuries, and even longer. There are many strains of cannabis/hemp that have yet to be tested, with your help cannabis prohibition can come to an end and it will be possible to provide more information how much energy can come from hemp per acre with evidence and strain types.

  • University of Connecticut Study “The hemp biodiesel showed a high efficiency of conversion97 percent of the hemp oil was converted to biodiesel
  • Hemp grows without any pesticides, herbicides and no chemicals which saves energy, in comparison think of all the dangerous cancer causing pesticides grown with corn that harvests less than hemp
  • Diesel, Ethanol, methanol, methane gas, and gasoline without sulfur can be derived from biomass made from hemp (Diesel is 129,500 BTU/gal – Ethanol is 84,530 Btu/gal)
  • Hemp can produce 10 tons of biomass per acre every four months (Biomass has a heating value of 5000-8000 BTU/lb)
  • Hemp harvests the more energy per acre compared to alternatives, hemp has a high cellulose content
  • Hemp pellets can replace wood pellets for stoves and boilers which are common
  • Hemp is one of the only plants that can be harvested year-around in states like California, or Florida for example
  • Hemp strains can produce more or less biomass, some strains produce more seed compared to others

Diesel engine’s have many advantages over gasoline, diesel fuel contains more energy than gasoline, diesel engine’s are more efficient with less maintenance and last longer. It’s your choice, some people convert their gas cars to run on ethanol or E85 ethanol even though there is less performance and less MPG.

“The motor was built for ordinary oils, and without any modification was run on vegetable oil” – Rudolf Diesel

Renewable Hemp Fuel can power Spacecraft and Space Stations

Rudolf Diesel who made the diesel engine was literally found swimming with the fishes! Wide use of Rudolf Diesels engine would have made petroleum-based fuel obsolete. The idea was destroyed by marijuana prohibition after Rudolf Diesel’s death.

Hemp can make non-toxic biodegradable products that are stronger and last longer. Hemp grows well in most areas. Hemp seeds can be pressed and used for diesel. Fuel grade alcohol could be made by fermenting leftover biomass, including leaves and stalks. Hemp plants with low THC levels produce less seed and ethanol per acre compared to other strains. Some strains are mature in 60 to 90 days.

Millions of acres of land could be restored if people shifted their unhealthy diets away from meat, healthier plant based foods taste better anyway. Meat eating is very destructive and poor animals are suffering and dying, butchers are cruel, There has been lots of evidence of animal abuse if you search on the internet or local library if that information is not censored or restricted from public view. Intentionally killing animals for food is still animal abuse since animals prefer to stay alive. Meat eating is addictive, people don’t need it but think they do, that sounds more like an addiction than an actual need for food which could come from plants.

Math Proves Worlds Energy can come from Renewable Hemp Fuel

19,150,000 barrels of oil per day (bbl/day)
CIA removed the information from their website so here is the archived link. 1800 gallons of hemp ethanol per acre=42 barrels hemp fuel (42 gallons in a barrel)

half of the arable land in USA 235 million acres
19,150,000 x 366 days* = 7,008,900,000

235,000,000 x 42 = 9,870,000,000 barrels hemp fuel
USA consumes

7,008,900,000 barrels every year
Projected world oil consumption by 2030:
104,000,000 barrels per day x 366 days* = 38,064,000,000

Worlds total arable land 13,805,153km²
half of the total arable land in the world 6902576km² x 247 acres in 1 km² = 1,704,936,272 acres

1,704,936,272 x 42 (1800gallons) = 71,607,323,424 barrels hemp fuel

* 366 days are counted instead of 365 days in a year.

So there is math proving that more than enough hemp fuel can be made to supply far more than the demand covering one of the major energy sources, so obviously not all hemp biomass should be converted into just ethanol, diesel, gasoline, pellets, I guess the markets would adapt because what if diesel cars get more popular? There might be undiscovered ways to use ethanol, diesel and other forms of hemp energy more efficiently which would help offset the lower Energy return On Energy Invested compared to fossil fuels.

Even if hemp can only produce 300 gallons of hemp fuel per acre, hemp can still provide the energy needed with more land needed.
and yes arable land could be left alone, diesel is more efficient than gas.

Hemp crops can use less energy to grow and every part of the hemp plant can be used, the seed oil can be used for biodiesel, the stalk can be used for ethanol, no part of the plant needs to be wasted which is why Hemp is a superior crop to grow. Hemp crops work very well in crop rations since hemp helps replenish nutrients in the soil. Anyone who does not think there is enough land to grow hemp for fuel and still grow food crops need to take a serious look at all the waste land that can be converted into arable land. Hemp and mushrooms are a great resource to convert land into arable land good for growing food crops.

Until the 1930s most paint and varnishes were made with non-toxic hemp oil

Hemp plastic is stronger than steel

Biodegradable hemp plastics could reduce landfill waste and display unique strength characteristics. Plastics produced from oils produce biproducts of sulfur and carbon monoxide which do not biodegrade.

Roads, highways and freeways can be made from hemp based concrete called Hempcrete. Hempcrete is superior to concrete in many ways. Hempcrete is fireproof, waterproof, mold and Pest Resistant (NO Termites.) Hempcrete is reportedly not good for building basements, this should be investigated more, maybe Hemp plastic and Hemp fiber can help construct better basements? Hemp can also be mixed with clay to build walls. Hemp plywood is 3 times stronger than regular plywood.

Hemp production could potentially stop deforestation. Hemp paper can be recycled up to 8 times where current wood pulp is only recyclable up to 3 times. Only 1 acre of hemp is said to produce more oxygen than 25 acres of current forest. Wood pellets are very common, however hemp pellets for stoves and boilers are a much better solution. Hemp can be grown locally in virtually any location, and the hemp can be processed into fuel pellets.

As living beings, our number one need is oxygen. Hemp is one of the fastest growing plants on earth that creates ozone and oxygen, breathing in CO2 that sustains the atmosphere. Ozone breathe in CO2, which cools the air, attracts moisture and causes rain. We need to switch fuels especially with the energy demand growing. Alcohol and hemp seed oil still burn oxygen, but create it without any sulfur while other energy sources do not create oxygen in a sustainable cycle.

Biomass can be grown in Space Settlements, Elevating carbon dioxide levels can increase growth speed of plants. The cannabis plant seems to have evolved when natural CO2 levels were many times what they are today. Cannabis plants can potentially breathe in more CO2 compared to other plants. Plants use CO2 for photosynthesis, creating sugars to build plant tissues. It is possible to enhance growth rate of plants by elevating CO2.

There is a chance cannabis might be able to counter some of the negative effects that astronauts have from being in space.

Hemp is more than a superior super-food source and resource, hemp can make superior biodiesel and other forms of cleaner energy. Better homes can be constructed from superior Hemp building materials.
