How much does weed cost

There is a lot of weed being smoked since 2016 when a report by “Arcview” stated that $53.3 billion dollars were spent on cannabis by North Americans. Since 2016 more states and even countries have stepped up to the legalization line and the 2017 number for the amount of weed purchased has increased by 33%. That’s a massive increase in weed purchasing and tax revenue. These numbers are based on the estimated total of legal and illegal weed sold in North America per year. Due to the massive shifts in the medical marijuana market, the price of marijuana is going down! So just how much does weed cost in your neighborhood.

Update 2019: Legalization has gained ground in the US and has become legalized or medically legalized in many countries such as Canada. Yes, Canada, home of the beaver, basketball, and currency made out of heavy coins called “Loonies”. Grow Your Own Cannabis For Just $3 per gram: An easy to follow guide

As cannabis became legalized and people started hearing about the massive tax revenues being generated It really shocked people. No one realized just how much weed was getting smoked in North America. So, what does weed cost in your area? We would like to put together an international price index for medical marijuana as well as weed from the black market.

I live in Canada in sort of a pre-legalization limbo. In July 2018 cannabis will be legalized in all of Canada and the prices will change for sure. Currently, if I needed to order weed from a dealer or from a semi-legal online dispensary I would be paying about $240 per ounce of top-grade cannabis and about $200 per ounce for mid-grade cannabis. I believe that’s near the top of the expensive weed scale, what do you think?

TIP: Always weigh your weed, it only takes a second and you’ll know if you are being ripped off instantly. A cheap digital scale will do just fine. If you are getting shorted find a new source, don’t confront your drug dealer! If it’s from an online source you can complain to the company and leave a bad review.

Average Price for a Quarter of Weed

With more states and provinces legalizing cannabis more growers have come online and caused the prices of cannabis to fall in recent times. A report on Bloomberg.com states that “the increasing supply of legal marijuana is turning into a major buzz kill for growers as prices plunge”. As more illegal growers convert their grows over to legal the amount of cannabis on the market is only going to grow.
It’s said that in Colorado or as I like to call it weed central that the price of wholesale weed has fallen an average of 48% to $1300 a pound for premium weed. How much does weed cost where you live?

California-based Arcview Group a cannabis investor consortium tells its members to expect cannabis prices to continue to fall and that this should be planned for in all new business plans for people growing as a business. As agricultural technology advances due to this new gold rush expect the cost of production to fall and the amount of production to keep rising and pressuring prices.
As we enter into 2018 several states have legalized to at least some degree and all of Canada will move to legalize weed by July 2018; we decided to look at how the cost of weed has been affected by the increased consumption rates.

Just like in real-estate it all comes down to location, location, location. If you are living in a very weed unfriendly state such as Kentucky, where a small-time dealer could catch 2 to 4 years for a simple weed deal the prices are high. There are risks, transportation issues and more middlemen involved in the transaction to get that weed to the state in the first place.

If you are lucky to live in and around Colorado where cannabis business has to fight and undercut their prices to gain customers the price falls substantially. The network of growers is large and built up so there is more capacity then need at this point. The same goes for California, they have more weed then they can sell which of course leads to low prices.

If you live in a place where medical cannabis is legal then you can likely get cannabis for even less money because medical cannabis is taxed less, then recreational. How much does weed cost in your state?

Remember I’m basing my price estimates off California and Colorado weed prices, not street prices.

Out on the black market in most US states where cannabis is not legal the cost of a pound of weed is between $2000 to $4000 per pound depending on the quality of the product. On average expect to pay $2K to 3K per pound.
