Complete CBD Oil Dosage Guide with Rosebud CBD

“How much CBD oil should I take?” This question is frequently asked by new CBD users. The answer, however, isn’t quite so simple.

When it comes to finding the perfect CBD dosage, there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach. What works for you personally, might be a completely different dosage for someone else.

Determining the right amount of CBD oil to consume is more art than science. It takes a little time and effort to find your sweet spot- and even then, you may need to periodically adjust your dose to reflect your ever-changing schedule, mood, and environment.

CBD dosing is a highly individual process.

Determining the best CBD dosage generally depends on the following factors:

Concentration : Concentration, or strength, refers to the total amount of CBD in a given product. Concentration is measured in milligrams (mg) per millimeter (mL) of oil. This is different from dosage, which indicates the amount of CBD per serving.

Body weight : A person’s body weight often plays a role in how much, or how little, the CBD will affect your body. Generally speaking, heavier people may need a higher dose to experience the calming effects of CBD; lighter people, on the other hand, may feel the same effects with a lower dose. Click here for a helpful dosage calculator!

Desired effects : For many, the optimal dose comes down to the level of pain or discomfort they are experiencing. Someone with chronic pain or severe anxiety may need a higher dose to alleviate their symptoms, whereas a person with a milder condition may prefer a lower dose for slightly lesser effects.

Tolerance : Devoted users may potentially develop a CBD tolerance over time. This can result in reduced effects from the same dosage, so higher subsequent doses may be needed to achieve the same desired results.

Getting Started

With these facts in mind, most people who are new to the world of CBD are encouraged to start with the smallest suggested dosage, and gradually increasing the dosage until they achieve their desired results.

In the beginning, try 5-10 drops of your CBD oil. Wait until after the CBD has reached its peak and is leaving your system, before trying a slightly higher dose; around 4 hours for CBD oil.

You can take more sooner, but any effects you feel will be the cumulative result of both doses.

At Rosebud, we offer three potency options to give our customers the freedom to fully customize their wellness routine.

Tips to Help Identify Your Ideal Concentration of CBD

Consistency is Key : Use your CBD oil consistently; take the same amount, at the same time, every day.

Stick with a Routine : Start with this dosage for the first 4-6 weeks, as it may take some time to notice the changes.

Write About it : Keep a journal to track dosage and effects. This will help give you insight into what CBD oil dosage is best for you.

Dose at Night : A possible side effect of CBD oil is drowsiness, so it might be best to start out by dosing at night.

Rosebud is comprised of a high concentration of CBD and MCT oil for a faster, more efficient delivery throughout the body. Each batch of Rosebud CBD oil is third-party lab tested to ensure purity, quality, and accuracy in dosing.

Rosebud CBD oil is pesticide, herbicide, and solvent-free- with no additives, flavorings, sweeteners or preservatives.

As with any new supplement or lifestyle change, be sure to consult your physician or health care professional before introducing CBD into your wellness routine.

Different Types of CBD Dosage:

CBD generally follows three dose ranges. Smaller doses can stimulate the body, while larger doses can help sedate the body. We offer three potency options to give our customers the freedom to customize their wellness routine.

Microdose : Microdosing, or ingesting extremely low doses of medicinal substances, have taken the world by storm. When it comes to CBD, a microdose falls between the range of 0.5mg and 20mg.*

Standard Dose : A standard dose generally falls between the range of 10 to 100mg of CBD each day.*

Macrodose : Macrodoses are very large, high-range doses that we only suggest under very specific circumstances. Consult your doctor about macrodosing with CBD, which is any dose of 100mg to 800mg per day.*

How to Use Your CBD Oil:

Sublingually

Taking CBD Oil sublingually (under tongue) is a pretty straightforward process. CBD can be absorbed directly into your bloodstream from capillary-rich areas underneath the tongue, and along the gums and cheek. From here, it avoids first-pass metabolism and is sent directly throughout your body.

  • Shake well before using
  • Fill the dropper to the desired amount
  • Drop your CBD oil directly under your tongue; hold for 30-45 seconds, then swallow.

This route gets CBD into your bloodstream faster than swallowing. However, because most of the CBD will eventually be swallowed, peak bloodstream levels range from 0.5 – 5 hours.

It’s also suggested to keep the CBD oil in your mouth for up to a minute before swallowing.

During this time, you can increase absorption by swishing the CBD oil around your mouth, and even between your teeth. This increases the surface contact between the oil and your capillaries.

Swallowing CBD

Ingesting CBD orally is the slowest route for the compound to reach its targets, but it’s also the longest period of time that it will remain active. When CBD is ingested, it passes through the digestive tract, where it’s then absorbed into the bloodstream and travels throughout your body. Peak bloodstream levels are reported anywhere between 1-6 hours, making this method best for long-term supplementation.

Try adding Rosebud CBD oil into your morning cup of coffee, or your favorite CBD mocktail recipe !

Topical CBD diffuses across your skin and reaches local targets, like muscles, inflammatory cells, and pain-perceiving nerves. Very little, if any, enters the bloodstream — unless it is designed for transdermal activity.

Topicals are great for on-the-spot treatment, and arousal. But for long-term health goals, people often see the best results when they pair topical CBD with oral products.

Get Creative!

Food affects your body’s ability to absorb CBD, and more cannabinoids are absorbed on a full stomach. CBD is fat-soluble, so consuming with a healthy dose of fats can increase the amount of CBD that reaches your bloodstream .

Can You Take Too Much CBD Oil?

If you’re worried about potentially taking too much CBD, don’t fret! Clinical trials have prescribed CBD doses up to 1,200 mg daily for months, without observing any serious side effects. That’s more CBD than an entire bottle of Rosebud CBD Oil , or 60+ suggested servings per day!

Although CBD is considered safe and non-toxic, it could potentially lower your blood pressure. CBD can also interfere with your body’s ability to process certain pharmaceutical drugs. Both CBD and grapefruit inhibit cytochrome p450 , so take extra precautions if you are on a medication that comes with a warning not to consume with grapefruit.

As always, we recommend speaking to a healthcare professional before adding anything serious to your wellness routine.

CBD Oil Dosage Chart – How Much CBD Oil Should I Take?

A person with a good endocannabinoid tone won’t need as much oil, and may also find their experience with CBD to be more subtle. On the other hand, an individual with more pressing health matters may need to increase the CBD oil dosage to help tone the endocannabinoid system into balance.

CBD oil is similar to a multivitamin. It takes time to build up within the body and produce benefits. Read the CBD Tincture Guide to learn more.

We can experiment with proper CBD dosage based on a few things: your weight and how you want to take CBD oil. But before we get to the chart, let’s first understand what a starting dose of CBD looks like.

Can You Overdose On CBD?

There have been no reported overdose deaths from CBD or other hemp products.

Pure CBD oil is non-toxic and has been tested in human trials in doses up to 1500mg-2000mg in a single day without significant side effects (source).

However, there is little evidence that an extra large dose can result in substantial additional health benefits. The endocannabinoid system acts to balance the body. Once it is activated and sufficiently well-oiled, it performs its function.

Since an effective dose is well below the tested limits, it’s not practical to waste money on megadosing CBD.

CBD Dosage based on weight

A good general calculation for effective CBD dosage recommendations based on weight is 1 milligram of CBD per every 10 pounds you weigh. In other words, divide your weight by ten to get your recommended daily dosage in milligrams.

[Your weight in pounds] ÷ 10 = [your daily dose in milligrams]

For example, if you weigh 150lbs, 15mg per day may be a good baseline CBD dose recommendation for you.

Begin with a bit less than this baseline if you prefer to be cautious, or add a bit more if you’re seeking rapid results.

CBD users with an average weight between 150lbs and 240lbs find that a dose between 15mg and 20mg once or twice a day is enough to provide effective relief from a variety of ailments.

Check our CBD oil dosage chart below, as even mild dosages of 12mg per day can provide real noticeable relief.

CBD Dosage Chart

General CBD Oil Dosage Guidelines

The chart above can help you determine the proper amount of CBD to take. Start with the low dose for a week and notice the effect. Take the amount recommended for your weight. If you aren’t feeling the effects, move up to the standard dose. Try the high dose range if the medium range does not produce the desired results.

The proper dosage all depends on your health and your body. Experiment to find out what works best for you.

As Dr. Dustin Sulak, director of Integr8 Health, says “Some patients effectively use tiny amounts of cannabis while others use incredibly high doses. I’ve seen adult patients achieve therapeutic effects at 1 mg of total cannabinoids daily, while others consume over 2000 mg daily without adverse effects.”1

While you might not notice an immediate effect while taking CBD oil, over time you should begin to detect more balance, calm, and peace of mind in your life.

Some people may notice a more extreme difference than others. Imagine someone who is deficient in vitamin C. Taking a vitamin C supplement would result in a radical change in their health. Someone with healthy vitamin levels would likely not react in the same way.

CBD oil is similar to a vitamin in that it helps to support and maintain overall health. If your endocannabinoid system is depleted or imbalanced, taking CBD could produce tremendous changes more quickly than someone who has a healthy endocannabinoid tone.

If you’re already healthy, you may not notice an immediate effect. While your friends or family may start taking high doses of CBD oil and notice instant changes, you may not need the same amount.

Maintenance CBD Doses vs Therapeutic CBD Doses

Heavier doses of CBD may be necessary when your body is way out of balance. And once you are in good health, you may only require a much smaller dose to maintain the benefits.

For example, you may take extra vitamin C when you get a sore throat or when traveling to give your immune system an extra boost. Yet you only take a recommended daily amount of vitamin C for general immune support when you’re feeling well.

What’s The Best Time of Day To Take CBD?

When to take CBD may depend on what benefits you are seeking.

If you’re looking for focus and calm during the day, you may have CBD with your morning tea or coffee. If you want restful sleep after a long day of work, you may prefer taking CBD in the evening.

How much hemp oil should I take per day?

How many times you take CBD during the day also depends on why you are taking it.

For maintaining general good health, taking CBD once a day with your vitamins may be sufficient. However, if you find CBD gives you benefits throughout the day, you may get better results taking it multiple times a day.

There are three main CBD oil dosage schedules that people use to take CBD:

  1. Once or Twice Per Day
  2. Every 2-3 Hours
  3. Hourly Microdosing CBD

When finding your ideal dose of CBD oil, we recommend starting with one-quarter dropper 1-2 times per day during the first week, moving up to one half a dropper during the second week, three-quarters of a dropper during the third week, and a full dropper on the fourth week.

In a paper published in the European Journal of Internal Medicine, Dr. Caroline MacCallum and Dr. Ethan Russo shared a good tip for figuring out a proper dosage of CBD, “Start Low and Go Slow!” 2

CBD BALM DOSING: Depending on the strength of CBD Balm, you may have to apply a little or a lot. Hempure CBD Balm is concentrated (750mg and 1400mg), so a little bit is very effective. Apply a small amount to the area where you are experiencing soreness, dryness, or stiffness every six hours.

CBD EDIBLES DOSING: Gummies and capsules produce the longest effect. Take one 10-25mg gummy or capsule every 6-12 hours and then increase if you’d like a more pronounced result. Like all Hempure CBD products, our gummies do not contain THC, so you don’t need to worry about any psychoactive effects. Capsules can be used on a similar schedule (every 6-12 hours).

CBD Oil Dosing Guide

Remember, that dosing CBD oil depends on the product. Most companies provide CBD dosing guidelines on the bottle, but those guidelines are specific to the potency of the product. What this means is, the dosing chart on a 1000mg CBD drops would not be ideal for someone who is highly sensitive to CBD and could do better with the potency of 250mg CBD drops. That’s why it’s important to experiment with the lowest strength first! The below CBD oil dosing chart can help you decide how much of a specific CBD product to use to get the most desired results.

When consuming CBD, it could be useful to use a notebook or an app to chart any changes you find in your mood, sleep, and general wellbeing. You could use this as a guide to determine the best CBD dose and best CBD dosage schedule for yourself. It can be your very own diary of dosing CBD!

How To Calculate CBD Oil Doses In Milligrams per Milliliters

Many CBD brands list the total amount of CBD in milligrams (mg) on product packaging without the serving size prominently displayed. Hempure CBD Oil Drops list the CBD mg serving size per full dropper on the backside of the label. However, others may not.

To calculate how many milligrams of CBD is in one-milliliter dropper of oil, divide the total amount of milligrams by the total milliliters in the bottle.

[CBD in mg] ÷ [bottle size in ml] = [CBD in mg per ml]

For example, here are the serving sizes for Hempure CBD Oil Drops:

How Much CBD Should I Take for My Specific Concern?

If you’re looking for therapeutic benefits from CBD, it’s best to consult with your physician first to help you decide how much CBD oil to take. Make sure to take a look at the dosing guidelines on the bottle as well. If you’re on medication, speak to your doctor about any possible interactions.

Figuring Out How Much CBD Oil To Buy

When you’re just starting out with CBD oil, it can be tempting to go for a concentrated strength because it seems cost-effective. In reality, starting out with potent CBD is counterproductive in the long term. Most CBD users, particularly those that use it as a wellness supplement, find that a little goes a long way. You might find that just a couple of drops a day of 250mg CBD oil does the trick for you.

On the other hand, if you flood your system with CBD, you could end up building a tolerance (even though it’s pretty unlikely) or not feeling anything at all. To reiterate, start low and go slow! More importantly, don’t stock up on a product you haven’t tried – buy just one bottle when you start out. That way, if you feel the need to increase your dosage, you have the option to level up on your next purchase.

The Primary Factor In How Much CBD You Consume

Like with everything else, quality matters more than quantity with CBD. Here are some guidelines to follow to make sure your CBD dosing process is as accurate as possible:

Make sure you’re purchasing CBD oil.

There are tons of oils on the market that consumers commonly mistake for CBD oil. Let’s explore the most common ones:

  • Hemp oil: A common misconception people have is that hemp oil is synonymous with CBD since CBD comes from hemp. This is not true. Hemp oil, while very nutritious comes from hemp seeds, while CBD comes from the plant. Hemp oil may contain traces of CBD, but not enough to have any significant effect. To circumvent legal scrutiny, some companies may even market their CBD oil like hemp oil, even providing a hemp oil dosage at the back. This is misleading for a consumer, especially a new one. It’s best to go with a company that uses the term CBD oil.
  • Cannabis oil: Cannabis is a plant species that includes both hemp and marijuana. People consume marijuana recreationally because of the THC in it that has psychoactive properties. Hemp, on the other hand, is very low in THC (less than 0.3%). So when a product is labeled cannabis oil, the spectrum of things it could be is very large. Cannabis oil could be THC dominant, CBD dominant, or some blend of the two. Once again, if you’re looking for CBD oil, choose a product that markets itself as CBD oil.

Make sure your CBD oil label is honest.

Unfortunately, several CBD companies intentionally mislabel their products, putting in less CBD or none at all in some cases. When you’re starting out with CBD, check a company’s website for third-party lab test results. These should be readily available for your perusal. If you’ve confirmed that the amount of CBD on the label matches the amount in the bottle, you’re good to go. If you’re taking unverified CBD oil that happens to be mislabelled, it would defeat the purpose of spending time figuring out how much CBD to take. You can find Hempure’s lab test results here.

CBD Dose for Pets

Your dog or cat can experience the same benefits from CBD as you.

According to clinical studies, CBD dosage recommendations for dogs and cats do not differ substantially from people based on weight. Additionally, there is no concern for CBD overdose for pets as it has been given in very large doses to animals in clinical settings with no significant adverse effects.

How much CBD does my pet need to experience the benefits?

The weight of your pet is a good place to start. A simple formula for CBD dosing for dogs and cats is 0.1 milligram of CBD per day for every pound your pet weighs.

Pet Weight Daily CBD Dose

Therapeutic CBD Dose For Pets

If your pet is suffering from severe health conditions or immobility, heavier doses of CBD may be required to see results. An effective therapeutic dose may be double the amount based on the weight formula. More than that isn’t always more effective.

Baylor University researchers recently gave dogs 20mg of CBD versus 50mg to study the effects on joint pain. They found 9 out of 10 dogs showed benefits whether they had 20mg or 50mg.

In other words, both dosage levels were equally effective. So megadosing CBD for pets doesn’t seem to offer additional benefits either. Finding a minimum viable dose for your pet is important because high quality CBD is precious.

Key Points To Remember When Dosing CBD

There are a few key points to remember when determining the proper amount of CBD to take:

  1. Start slow and work your way up. CBD oil works at the root level of health to balance out the entire body.
  2. There is not one “right amount” to take. Each person will react differently to different dosages depending on their current endocannabinoid tone.
  3. Use the chart as a starting guide until you figure out which amount works best for you.

Enjoy the process and the wonderful calm, peace of mind and relief that CBD oil can bring into your life. If you’d like to find out more about CBD, be sure to read our CBD guide.
