Cannabis infused lip balm and lipstick recipes
With winter upon us, it is nearly impossible to fight off the incredible dryness we experience between the cold and our forced air heating system. Chapped or cracked lips and winter go hand in hand with up to 45% of Canadians suffering from some form of discomfort because of dry lips. While there are currently some great options out there. From all-natural products to those with additives that will make your lips tingle the options are close to endless. What many don’t know is that there is a new more natural option of cannabis-infused topical products that can help to soothe some of the most irritating symptoms using some all-natural products that you can combine to create your very own unique lip treatment at home.
THC-Infused Lip Balm
While there are options you can use that will not produce the psychoactive qualities from THC our recipe today focuses specifically on a THC rich recipe. This is because of an extra step that is added where heat is applied to the dried herb to decarboxylate it which is necessary to convert the THCA into THC which releases the euphoric affectsyou would expect from consuming marijuana. If you would prefer the benefits without any active THC, then you can skip step three in the instructions section.
- 3-5 grams of dried cannabis
- essential oils (optional)
- 5 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 5 tablespoons of beeswax
- 1 grinder
- 1 cookie sheet
- 1 sheet of parchment paper
- 1 pot
- 1 mixing spoon
- 1 mason jar
- 1 elastic
- containers for lip balm
- 1 easy to pour measuring cup
Begin by weighing out how much weed you will be using for your lip balm. You can adjust the amount according to your personal preference and tolerance levels. Beginners should start with 3 grams, or less and more experienced users may feel more comfortable using five or more grams.
Grind your bud using an electric or manual grinder. Any remaining stem or seeds don’t need to be removed since you will be straining the plant material later.
It is time to decarboxylate your bud. Preheat an oven to 250 F. While it heats you can place a single layer of parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Now spread the ground weed evenly across the parchment paper. Once your oven has preheated, you can bake it for 30 minutes.
Place one pot onto a cold burner and add in 5 tablespoons of beeswax, 5 tablespoons of coconut oil, and the decarboxylated bud grind.
Turn the burner on but keep it on low. Stir the mixture frequently while allowing it to cook for 15 minutes.
Add any essential oils you would like and make sure to mix them in well.
Remove the pot from the heat and allow it ten minutes to cool.
While the mixture is cooling you can prepare your filter. Do so by opening a mason jar and covering the opening with a piece of cheesecloth. You can use the elastic to hold it in place. A bit of slack to create a funnel shape is ideal.
Slowly pour the mixture through the cheesecloth. Once you have finished, you can remove the cheesecloth and squeeze a fair amount of liquid from it into your collection jar before you throw it away.
Pour the mixture into a heat safe measuring cup to quickly and easily fill any size of container you want to store your freshly made THC-infused lip balm in.
Marijuana Lipstick Coloring
The neat thing about the lip balm recipe is it can double as a lipstick or tinted lip gloss.
Red Lipstick: Add 1 teaspoon of beetroot powder for a deep red lipstick.
Brown Lipstick: Add 1 teaspoon of cocoa powder or cinnamon for a brown lipstick.
Copper Lipstick: Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric for a copper-colored lipstick.
If you prefer a brighter color that is more difficult to obtain with natural products you can add a drop or two of food coloring to adjust the shade of your cannabis-infused lipstick. The coloring ingredients should be added during step four near the beginning to give them time to completely bind with the other components of the recipe.
From all-natural products to those with additives that will make your lips tingle the options are close to endless.
